Bowers Gold Standard Bore Gauge

In response to global industries growing demand for sub-micron capable bore gauges, Bowers Metrology have announced the launch of what they are calling ‘the Gold-Standard in bore gauging’. Replacing Bowers renowned Superbore gauges, the class-leading Ultima range is able to accurately measure bore sizes from 1 – 300 mm with a choice of resolutions up to 0.0001 mm. Bowers’ Ultima, the company’s most accurate bore gauging system to date, boasts a simple lever operation and a constant measuring force, ensuring outstanding ease of use and repeatability under laboratory or shop-floor conditions. Ultima’s long list of advanced features includes Bowers new ‘FASTFIT’ measuring heads with extended measuring range, a tough new ergonomic handle, Bowers’ superior transducer technology and a range of digital readout units giving access to many advanced features, such as tolerance settings, statistical analysis and multi-channel facilities.

Increasing system flexibility, customers wishing to use their existing probes and readouts units, are able to use Ultima’s adaptable multi-probe holder. For non-standard applications, Bowers are able to manufacture high-accuracy Ultima heads for measuring previously problematic internal features such as threads, splines and grooves.

CV Instruments, the prolific material-testing arm of the Bowers Metrology Group, have launched the impressive CV R-190 Universal, Bench Surface-Roughness Tester. Boasting an impressive high specification, Bowers claim that the robust new CV unit is equally at home in a company’s production environment or within a technically demanding laboratory.

Based on an advanced skidless measuring system, the R-190 uses an inductive pickup with interchangeable styli, and is able to measure in a wide range of roughness parameters, including – Ra, Rz, Rt, Rp, Rv, Rq, RSm, RmaxD and Material ratio curve, with additional roughness parameters available on request. Aiding the advanced unit’s flexibility, the large capacity, 0.001um resolution tester has ‘cut-off’ option lengths of 0.08mm, 0.25mm, 0.8mm and 2.5mm.

With a main 500mm work column, based on a solid granite base, the R-190’s adjustable tracer is able to operate a minimum distance of 100mm or a maximum of 380mm from the unit’s granite surface. The tester’s worktable has a 360-degree rotational range and is able to incline through +/- 10-degrees, the unit also has a range of ‘V’ blocks that are able to accommodate a variety of sizes of cylindrical components.

The R-190 is supplied with 2 styli, a standard stylus, intended for roughness tests on plain and round surfaces, and for use within bores from 10mm diameter, with a maximum depth of 18mm. A second stylus is included for use on plain surfaces, and in bores from 4mm diameter, with a maximum depth of 15mm. A high quality PC, including Windows XP, and easy to use control and drive units are included in the comprehensive CV package.
