ACCURATE MEASUREMENT OF BEARING BORE DIAMETERS

Timken Rail Services: Tasked with further improving their already stringent inspection routines on a safety critical part, leading supplier of quality bearings to the global rail industry, Northampton based Timken Rail Services has recently invested in a set of Bowers advanced SmartPlugs and display columns. The extremely accurate new system will allow the company to accurately measure bearing bore diameters, detect possible dimensional anomalies - such as ovality, speed-up assembly and satisfy the global rail industry’s need for traceability. Upon insertion of the new SmartPlug gauge into the relevant bearing bore, the easy to read Bowers display columns, now instantly shows the bore diameter status, as both a colour graphic and digitally, to three decimal places metric. Gauge findings can then be transmitted to Timken’s data collection system and/or generate a traceable bearing certificate.
