ACCURATE INTERNAL MEASUREMENT OF COMPONENTS
Parker Precision Ltd: From modest beginnings in 1952, Parker Precision Limited has grown into a nationally renowned precision engineering sub-contract business, with the ability to handle contracts ranging from "one-off" prototypes to medium and even large production runs. Operating from an impressive 12,000 Sq ft modern workshop and office facility, situated close to both the M5 and M6 motorways at the heart of the West Midlands in Bilston, the company has a long history of producing high precision components, from a wide range of materials. Although high quality work is undertaken for such diverse sectors as the Aerospace, Satellite and Medical industries, the majority of Parker Precision’s output is now destined for the demanding Petrochemical industry.
Operating under ISO9001:2000 certification, Parker Precision run a rigorous 'in-house' inspection policy ensuring that each of the company’s skilled operators take responsibility for the quality of their own output. In addition, all of the company’s production is subject to a thorough final inspection regime. As Parker Precision’s operators often need to take extremely accurate internal measurements of components within a harsh manufacturing environment, the need for a shop-floor proof range of fluid resistant bore gauges was identified. Having searched for a solution to this vex gauging problem, company owner Maurice Parker found the ideal answer in the recently purchased Bowers’ fluid resistant XT Xtreme Digital rage. Delighted with the new gauges performance, Maurice enthused. “ As our aim is to ensure the absolute quality of our components at every stage of manufacturing, measurements often need to be made whilst components are still located within a machine-tool. The presence of oil, coolant and water means that, despite the great care taken, normal digital bore gauges would not stand-up to prolonged operation in this hostile environment. After searching for a suitable range of bore gauges, I found the answer in Bowers’ XT Xtreme Digital Bore Gauges, having recently invested in a range covering sizes from 6 – 50mm, we are now able to take accurate measurements in previous no-go areas for digital measuring instruments. The gauges’ shop floor proof characteristics, accuracy and ease and speed of use mean that we will soon be adding to our existing range.”
Boasting a very impressive IP65 rating, rendering them resistant to oil, coolant, water and airborne particles. Bowers XT Xtreme Digital bore gauges have a long list of useful features including a clear digital display, metric/inch conversion, an RS 232 output and hardwearing, extended travel carbide measuring anvils. Available to measure bore sizes up to 300mm, Bowers will also manufacture cost effective ‘one-off’ XT instruments to cater for other non-standard internal measuring applications, such as threads, grooves, splines, etc.
