Excellence
In The Field Of Metrology
The design and manufacture of precision tools and measuring instruments has been the principal activity of Moore & Wright for almost a century. Founded in 1906 by Frank Moore, with capital supplied by a benefactor named Wright, the business began as a one room workshop in Sheffield manufacturing simple engineers' tools. Rapid growth followed. In 1924 the company was designing and producing range of micrometers to precision tolerances for the British Government, and by 1939 Moore & Wright was the largest British manufacturer of precision tools. Between 1940 and 1945 Moore & Wright was making micrometers at a rate of 20,000 units per month in three factory sites across Sheffield. |

The John
Shaw Group of Birmingham purchased Moore & Wright in 1945 and they
continued to expand by combining the skilled 'family' workforce with major
investment. A new purpose built factory and office complex was built on
the outskirts of Sheffield in 1959 to accommodate further growth. Today, after almost one hundred years, Moore & Wright is a thriving member of the Spear & Jackson group of companies and is now part of the Bowers Metrology Group, which includes Bowers Metrology, Coventry Gauge and CV Instruments. |

Other services include calibration of new and used instruments, repair refurbishment, plus a non-standard design and manufacturing facility. The products on
