| The
Bowers Metrology story began in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England in 1915
with the founding of the original Bowers Precision Engineers and Toolmakers
factory. Product development continued and in 1944 during the second world
war the company designed it’s first 3-point internal bore micrometer.
Such was the success of the range of bore micrometers over the years that it gradually became evident that a separate manufacturing facility specialising in the manufacture of bore gauges was necessary. Consequently in 1979 Roger Bowers, Grandson of the original founder of the company, founded the Bowers Internal Gauge Company Limited. The success of the new manufacturing facility was immediate, particularly due to the new policy of opening up export markets (particularly in the USA and Europe) to the new products. Demand increased at such a rapid pace that the original factory became too small to cope so in 1989 the company moved to it’s exisiting site of 50,000 square feet. Production efficiency being a crucial element in today’s competitive markets, state ot the art machinery was soon introduced including a 6-axis Citizen lathe, a Nakamura 8-axis machining centre, a Charmilles wire-erosion machine, Hahn & Kolb laser engravers and a Studer cone-taper grinding machine to name but a few of the company’s production assets. The company’s greatest strength however lies with the people who work for it and Bowers have a dedicated team of first class engineers specialised in metrology with years of experience behind them backed up by a strong sales and support team. The expertise and specialist knowledge of metrology available to Bowers soon led to the introduction of new measuring instruments, different, but nonetheless complementary to, the core bore gauging range. Notable examples being the Universal Gauge, the Snapmic digital indicating micrometer and the SmartPlug range of dedicated plug-gauges. Another huge commercial asset possessed by the Bowers Metrology Group is it’s special products division. Virtually unique in the world of metrology, Bowers has a team of engineers dedicated solely to the design and manufacture of products to meet specialist customers requirements. Ranging from thread and slot measuring heads used for the measurement of threaded and slotted bores right up to bespoke projects such as brake pad measuring machines, the spectrum of special products is as wide as the requirement for them from manufacturing industry. |

Success led to rapid expansion and acquisitions which in turn resulted in the founding of the Bowers Metrology Group in the year 2000 comprising the original Bowers factory in Bradford (dealing with all export markets), Bowers UK in southern England, Moore & Wright in Sheffield and Coventry Gauge in Poole, Dorset. |
